System Requirements

Introduction

Moveware operates successfully on a wide array of network infrastructures. We can assist you in determining the suitability of existing hardware and communications. The final specification will depend on several factors, including other required functions of the Server, PCs and network. Many of our clients have decided to operate in a Terminal Server environment. The benefits include reducing administration costs and allowing remote branches and users to log in remotely over WAN communications of sufficient bandwidth. As a guide, the suggested minimum hardware specifications are as follows.

Note: Alternatively we do provide hosting of the Moveware software and associated user desktop services on request. This is an on-cloud premise environment based on Microsoft Azure.

Client Workstations

For companies that prefer to have each workstation running a version of Moveware locally (Client Workstation(s) and Database Server Setup), the minimum requirements is listed below:
  • Microsoft Windows 10™
  • Operating System is 64bit
  • 2 Core processor
  • 8GB RAM
  • Hard disk with at least 20GB free
  • 16-bit colour, 1600×900 screen resolution

 

Note: The database server and workstations must be either on-premises or on-cloud together. Separating them may lead to high latency communicating with the database server and cause Moveware to be unusable. For example, the database server is on cloud on Azure/Google and workstations are local. Users who run Moveware directly on the cloud platform will not have any issues compared to the client’s running workstations – they will experience slow screens and responses in system.

Moveware is compatible with both 32-bit and 64-bit versions of the following operating systems, but 64-bit version is the minimum for machines hosting the Database:

  • Microsoft Windows Server™ 2019 Standard / Datacenter (will be officially supported in 2024)
  • Microsoft Windows Server™ 2022 Standard / Datacenter (will be officially supported in 2024)
  • Microsoft Windows 10 Pro or above

 

Network

Minimum 100BaseT Ethernet network that supports TCP/IP networking protocols. Take note the ‘ping’ between servers should be less than 0.8ms otherwise performance issues may occur.

 

Internet bandwidth for Remote Desktop Sessions

Bandwidth requirements depend on many factors: which operating system is running on the Terminal Server, which applications are running on the Terminal Server, the operating system of the remote computer, how much printing is performed etc.

We recommend a minimum figure of 100kbps to 200kbps per remote desktop session, making sure that remote desktop connection settings are optimised accordingly.

 

Remote Access

In order for Moveware to install, maintain and support a company’s system, a broadband Internet connection to the Moveware Database Server is required. A Windows user account, with at least local Administrator access on the server and preferably Domain Administrator Access (if applicable), is required to correctly install Moveware. This is also required to install, maintain and support Moveware’s Web Services features. Reliable, on-demand remote access is also needed. Examples are Microsoft Terminal Server or Windows Remote Desktop connection.

These products are to be supplied by the client.

 

Backups

To facilitate effective backups, a cloud backup, tape backup, or removable drive solution such as an external USB drive, is recommended.

As part of the implementation, Moveware will assist with the initial configuration of a scheduled backup of the running database.

 

Printing

Moveware prints to virtually any windows printer. It allows print options to be customized for each user, so that different print jobs can be sent to different printers. We recommend the use of network printers rather than printers attached to client PCs. For remote printing we recommend using IP printing.

As part of the implementation, Moveware installs its own PDF generator called Moveware PDF. This is a licensed version of the popular CutePDF software PDF printer.

To help manage other tasks related to using Moveware, we’ve listed them below

 

General Use

  • Microsoft® Edge (version 109) or higher/equivalent browser
  • Microsoft Office 2016 or higher (Office 2016 is supported till October 2025)
 
Emailing

Moveware provides the ability to send emails manually (from inside the system or client’s local Outlook application) or automate them to send a particular time.

Automation requires an exchange server, Gmail or Office 365 accounts.

OAuth 2.0 is supported and preferred when sending mails from inside Moveware (vs sending by Outlook Application).

 

 

Mobile Platforms

Mobi

A brand new product that has been designed to run on iOS and Android mobile phones and tablets.

  • Phone or tablet running Android OS 10.0 and above, or iOS 11 and above
  • Minimum of 1Gb free disk space free
  • Minimum of 6Gb of RAM memory for basic use but recommended 8GB for intensive use with large numbers of items and photos
  • Wireless B/G/N+ network connection for local network syncing
  • 4G+ Mobile Data for on the road syncing
